French Theatrical Event - 2 scenes Le Misanthrope - UCLA

To High School Teachers of French,

I would like to invite you and your students to UCLA to a unique French theatrical and cultural event on Thursday April 11th. Our goal is to promote interest in French literature and culture, as well as greater contact between UCLA and our secondary schools.

In collaboration with Professor Michael Hackett in our Theater Arts department, I am sponsoring a theater production of Molière’s Le Misanthrope. We will present two scenes (not the whole play), and stage each in multiple ways to highlight the interpretive choices open to directors, actors, readers. A discussion of the interpretive choices will follow.

If you would be interested in having your students take a tour of our campus before the event, I would be happy to help arrange that for you.

Seating is limited, so please reserve your seats as soon as possible. I am not yet sure of the exact time of the performance. I am thinking that either 11:00 – 2:00 or 12:00 – 3:00 might be good. Please let me know your preference. Please  don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions: Melzer@humnet.ucla.edu.

Sincerely,

Sara Melzer, Professor
